Smoke TestingThe Smoke Testing program is designed to check for inflow from storm drain cross connections, point source leaks, roof connections, foundation drains, faulty manholes, and main sewer line defects.  M.E. Simpson Co., Inc. will use Two-Man Teams to smoke test your sanitary sewer system for these types of defects.  Through the testing we will identify potential areas of Inflow and Infiltration.  The areas where smoke appears will be photographed digitally and in some cases videos taken so corrective action can be taken. Written documentation shall also be performed so that the Utility will have a complete report of the Project Team’s activity. This will allow a prioritized plan of action to be developed for remediation of the collection system by the Utility.

  • Areas to be tested will be agreed upon by the Utility and M.E. Simpson Co., Inc.  The areas indicated for testing will be in accordance with the Utility’s specifications.
  • Non-toxic, odorless, non-staining liquid smoke will be used for three to five minute intervals.
